Dr. Amy Bandy is a world renowned eyelid plastic surgeon.  Here, Dr. Amy Bandy describes eyelid surgery and patients’ options.  First, Dr. Amy Bandy states that “eyelid surgery is typically performed to beautify the eyelid and make it look more youthful.  In the Caucasian eyelid, this is usually done because there is loose skin that is overhanging the eyelid and can even sometimes obstruct the vision.”  “But typically the patient is having it done for cosmetic reasons to minimize excess skin and wrinkling of the eyelid,” says Dr. Amy Bandy.

Next, Dr. Bandy describes the Asian eyelid surgery procedure.  Dr. Amy Bandy explains that “in the Asian eyelid, often times patients come in complaining of having a single eyelid that has no fold and patient wants it to look more occidental or they just want to have a double lid and in this situation, an eyelid crease can be created.”  Dr. Amy T. Bandy describes that “the upper eyelid bufferplasty or eyelid surgery is performed through an incision along where the natural crease is  or in the area where a crease will be made and any excess skin above that area is removed and in some patients there is excess fat in the fatty deposits in the upper eyelid and this is removed at the same time the incision is closed and the stitches are typically left in place for approximately 3 to 4 days and removed on or after the fifth day post operative.”  “There may be some bruising and swelling, but typically by about one week post operative, the eyelids look fantastic and makeup can be applied as well as eye shadow,” describes Dr. Amy Bandy.

Dr. Amy Bandy continues on to say that the “lower eyelid surgery can be done with an incision made just under the eyelid lashes along the area of the lower eye lid that a woman would normally place an eyeliner.”  “Through that incision, the tissues are then lifted and the excess fatty tissues exposed and can be trimmed or relocated to create fullness in a more desirable area and the skin is re-draped and any excess skin is removed and stitches is applied,” says Dr. Amy T. Bandy.  In addition, Dr. Amy Bandy says that “if there is only excess fat with no loose skin, then the access incision can be done in the conjunctiva which is inside the eyelid so that there is no external incision made whatsoever and through that incision that fat pockets can be addressed and either redistributed or removed.”

According to Dr. Amy Bandy, eyelid surgery is becoming more common.  For more information about eyelid surgery and Dr. Amy Bandy’s offices, please contact her for a consultation.  Dr. Bandy and her staff look forward to serving you.
